The trained experts listed below have demonstrated their knowledge and capability by passing a national competency exam. Each is required to complete regular continuing education classes, submit proof of satisfactory proficiency demonstrations, follow a rigorous quality assurance plan and adhere to a strict code of ethics. The National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP) serves as the credentialing division of AARST.

The EPA and your state health department strongly recommend that ALL home buyers and owners have their home tested for indoor radon.

New York State does not regulate radon service providers, however, certification through one of the national organizations is recommended.

Some of the companies listed below are certified as radon testing firms, meaning that these commercial businesses have been trained to utilize the equipment or provide detectors for the testing of radon through the certifying organization. Radon Testing Firms are required by the 10NYCRR16.130 to report the number of radon tests completed in New York to the NYS Department of Health biannually. Remember that while a certified radon tester may collect samples, anyone who analyzes the results of those tests must hold NYS Department of Health Environmental Laboratory Approval Program certification (ELAP(http://www.wadsworth.org/labcert/elap/radon.html )). ELAP certification ensures that the results obtained from an individual or firm are accurate and reliable. This means that while charcoal canisters, alpha track detectors, and Continuous Radon Monitors (CRM's) may be deployed by radon testers certified by NRPP, the actual test must be analyzed, and the results reported by an ELAP certified lab.

Some of the companies listed below are certified as radon mitigation firms, meaning that these commercial businesses have been trained to reduce indoor air radon levels, and/or implement measures designed to reduce such levels in existing buildings. Radon mitigation firms may be certified by the National Environmental Health Association. Radon Mitigation Firms are required by the 10NYCRR16.130 to report the number of homes mitigated in New York to the NYS Department of Health biannually.
